Welcome to the Cauda Equina Syndrome Resource Center! This Web site has been created and maintained by the Cauda Equina Syndrome Support Group (CESSG). Cauda Equina Syndrome Support Group was started in late November 1999, as a place for people with Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) to meet and share information about this condition. Most people have never heard of Cauda Equina Syndrome. When this rare condition happens to us, someone in our family or a dear friend, our first impulse is to turn to either the library or the Internet to find as much information about this as possible. This is when we discover that there is a real lack of information on this subject. If someone told you that they had a spinal cord injury you would understand right away that they had some type of problem with their back. You wouldn’t know the extent of the damage, but you would have a general idea where the injury was. But what if they told you they had Cauda Equina Syndrome? I imagine many of you, like us, have never heard of this. We know about spinal cord injury, but not Cauda Equina Syndrome. Where is the cauda equina area? Well, since our problem started with our back and that was where many of us had surgery, we could pretty much figure out that it was in that area, but where exactly was it and what did it mean? The focus of this Web site will be to answer everyone’s questions about Cauda Equina Syndrome. We plan to define CES, show exactly where this area is, and tell you what life is like living with CES every day. Most important we hope to provide you with enough knowledge so that you can take action to prevent this from happening to you if possible or to provide you with support, resources and information in the event you have been diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome. |
